Adjusting to a 3-Weeks On, 1-Week Off Schedule. How Do You Plan Vacations Without Summers Off?

I’m hoping someone can help me organize and plan my travel schedule for next year. I’m starting a position where I’ll work roughly three weeks each month and then have one week off. The only month when I’ll have two weeks off is July, starting around Independence Day.

I used to be a teacher, so I’m used to having about two months off in the summer. Because of that, I’m not sure how to plan vacations with this new schedule. Since I’m in the US, I’m also wondering whether traveling internationally- like to Europe- for just one or two weeks is realistic or worth it. Am I basically limited to staycations now?

I know places like Nantucket are an easy ferry ride and could make for a nice quick getaway, but I’d love to think a bit bigger too.

I’d really appreciate advice on:

1. Good destinations to escape the cold of New England in January and February 2. Ways to make the most of 1-week breaks throughout the year 3. Whether international trips are realistic with only 1 week off at a time

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
